Samuel Joseph Wing died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Sarah Wing Jacobs, at Sugar City, Idaho, Jan. 23, 1918, from the result of a paralytic stroke sustained some weeks before.  He had made his home with Mrs. Jacobs for about a year before death.  The deceased was born in Illinois, Aug. 13, 1842, and in 1860 married Elizabeth Jane Wright, who bore him seven children, five of whom are living.  In 1861 he was baptized in the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and in 1862 came to Utah, first settling at Draper, where he taught school for some years.  In 1875 he went to Heber, where he taught school and also music.  His wife died soon after coming to Heber.  He had four other wives all of whom have passed away, and he also had three other children from these marriages.  For fourteen years he was state superintendent of Sunday Schools.  He went to Canada in 1900 but returned to Utah in 1913, thereafter making his home with his married daughters in Utah and Idaho.  Accompanied by most of his children, his body was brought to Heber for burial.  The funeral services were held in the state tabernacle, which was well filled with friends an relatives.  Councilor F. W. Giles of the Third Ward conducted the services, the singing was by the Third Ward choir, W. A. Daybell offered the prayer, R. S. Duke, A. G. Duke, J. C. Jensen, and Samuel J. Nichols (a grandson) spoke, and George Smith gave the benediction.  Many beautiful flowers, token of love from friends, were in evidence.  Samuel Joseph Wing was the son of Matthias and Elizabeth M. (Chenoweth) Wing (Joseph, Giles, Joseph, Matthew, Stephen, Rev. John, Matthew).  A Complete bigraphical sketch appeared at page 1175 and his portrait with that of three brothers appeared as a frontis piece in the June 1913, number of The Owl.
