JOHN W. WING, PIONEER
           OF LEHI, DIES SUDDENLY

   Lehi, Oct 3-- John W. Wing, one of
Lehi's pioneers, died suddenly at his 
home  here  today.  He and  Mrs. Wing
had just had  dinner when  he expired
without any  expression or suggestion
that  he was  ill.  Johm William Wing
was the son of  Mathias and Elizabeth
Wing, and  was  born May 25, 1847, in
Newborough,   Illinois.  In  1862  he
joined  the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints  and  the same year
came to Utah  in the  company with an
uncle,  Dr. Joseph  Smith  Wing,  and
an   elder  brother,   Samuel  Joseph 
Wing.  The  company  arrived  in Salt 
Lake  City  Aug. 29  and in September
of the  same  year moved to Lehi.  Mr
Wing's  activities have been numerous
and varied.  He was  early associated
with  bringing in  imigrants by teams
sent  from  here.  He also  freighted
from  Independence  to Utah.  He  was
engaged  in  the  Black  Hawk  war in
Utah county.  Oct 11, 1868,  he  mar-
ried  Martha Goates  and for 15 years
they  lived  in Heber City at the end
of  which time they returned to lehi,
when  there  they have since resided.
  Mr. Wing is  survived  by  his wife
and five sons. The  are John W., Jr.,
George,  both  of  Lehi;  Norman,  of
American  Fork,   Joseph  and   Dolph
both  of  Brigham City, One  daughter
and  two  sons  preceded  the  father
in death.
