9 February 1942 - 19 November 1999
It is with deep sadness and a profound sense of personal loss that I inform
you of the passing this afternoon of Kathryn (NEWKIRK) (GRAHAM) WATSON.
Our Cousin Kathie was an eleventh generation descendant of Rev. John and
Deborah (BACHILER) WING. For more than forty years she researched,
examined, studied and cataloged the documents and literature associated
with the WING family. A portion of that work now resides in the genealogy
library in Salt Lake City. It was my honor and personal privilege to assist
in the final edits of that work.
Very early in my own search, Kathie took an interest in my efforts and
shared without hesitation the collected data for which she had worked so
long and so well. If I have had any subsequent success in this quest, it is
due to the guidance, advice, teaching and encouragement she gave me.
Kathie's humor... sometimes ribald... often sharp... always warm... will be
missed in this household.
Kathie and her husband have been welcome guests in our home... She became
good friends with our youngest daughter... That relationship was joyous to
behold... I don't know for sure that Charlie ever knew Kathie's last
name... She was, and is, and will always be simply, "Cousin Kathie."
While I cannot ever repay the debt I owe her, I can and will find a way to
suitably provide for WING researchers what I regard as an appropriate
memorial to her personally and to her massive effort. She entrusted with me
the entire documented corpus of her four decades of work on the WING and
related families. It will take some time to properly organize it for
distribution or electronic publication... But that will be done. I shall
keep you informed of its progress.
Rest Peacefully, Cousin Kathie...
We shall miss you.
